Mehendi, or henna, is best applied 2-3 days before an event to allow it to reach its peak color. If you are unfamiliar with the mehendi artist, it is a good idea to do a trial run to check the quality of the design and color. Be sure to ask if the artist is mixing their own mehendi or using pre-made cones, as the latter may contain chemicals that can affect the color. The paste should be left on for at least 6 hours, and a lemon-sugar solution should be applied 2-3 times.
To prevent accidents and ensure proper drying, the mehendi should be wrapped in toilet paper rather than plastic. It is important to keep the mehendi away from water for a few hours after it has been scraped off, and to apply oil (such as mustard) and gently massage it into the design to remove stickiness. Keep in mind that the palms will generally have the darkest color, and it is essential to hire a reputable artist for the best design and stain.
Courage, my friends; 'tis not too late to build a better world.
